LAY MINISTERS

Liturgical Ministers, including acolytes, lay eucharistic ministers (LEMs), lectors, intercessors, oblation bearers, musicians, and ushers are all members of the congregation, trained and reponsible for certain parts of the worship service, from lighting candles, welcoming, and guiding  people through the liturgy. Revised customaries (written procedures) for liturgical ministers can be found on the counter under the window in the sacristy. Contact Rev Susan if you would like to learn more about these ministries.

Training for new LEMs and Lay Readers will begin on Sunday, September 18, after church services. A refresher course for all new and continuing LEMs, Lay Readers, Intercessors and Ushers will be held on Sunday, October 9, after church.

COOKBOOK PROCEEDS TO BCHC

On Sunday, March 27, Dr Gail McClave of the Bandon Community Health Clinic attended our 9:30 worship service at which time she was presented with a check for $800 derived from sales of Ye Olde Cookbook. She thanked the many people of St John who worked on the book, and said the proceeds would be dedicated to a fund to provide low-cost mammograms for medically indigent women in Bandon.

ALTAR FLOWERS

If you would like to provide flowers for the sanctuary to celebrate a birthday or anniversary, so commemorate the life of a loved one, or some other reason, please use the sign-up sheet on the bulletin in the hallway.(Note that flowers are not used during Lent).

You may bring flowers to the church from your garden or flowers purchased in a shop (please deliver them by Saturday morning, so the Altar Guild can arrange and place them). RENOVATION UPDATE

With the approval of the annual meeting, Lara Mickle is leading a building committee to steer the renovation of Theresa Hall. Architect Tom Start has been selected to provide the planning, "permit set" construction documents, and to coordindate with John Parks Construction Company.

Specific projects include 1) evaluating the foundation of the entire existing facility to recommend and implement the appropriate repairs (there are three visible cracks), 2) upgrade Theresa Hall by refinishing the floor, walls and ceiling, providing insulation, improve the lighting and power, design a more convenient buffet layout, and improving the heating efficiency, 3) improve accessibility to the north deck by adding an ADA-compliant ramp and remodeling or rebuilding the deck as required, 4) consulting with the City of Bandon on the desire to expand the existing parking lot.

The renovation would be funded from proceeds of sale of the old vicarage. Plans for the project have been presented to the Bishop and the Diocesan Art and Architecture Commission for final approval.
